Love Conquers All

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” 1 John 4:18

We’ve spent the past few weeks talking about how to face and conquer our fears; What to say, what to think, where to go, who to surround ourselves with, and who to trust. But what if I told you that there is a very simple, and yet complex thing we could trust keep fear at bay? What gives us the power to actually implement those fear conquering steps? How do we find the courage to believe in and trust these affirming actions? I’m going to say something you probably wouldn’t expect and because of that, this week’s entry is going to be super short. Love is the emotion that truly conquers fear.

Love Conquers All. What could that possibly mean? How can Love be the true key to making everything work? I will try to keep it as simple as possible. Think about the person in your life you trust the most. What let’s you know without a shadow of a doubt that you can trust them? Is it their actions? The way they carry themselves? The promises they make and keep? The favors the do for you? It’s probably all of those things and a few more, but what makes them do that for you? If you were to go to them and ask them, why me? Chances are the answer is very simple: because they love you. Not because you deserve it or earned it, because let’s face it, none of us are perfect. None of us gets it right every single time. But the people who love us don’t walk away just because we messed up. The love us anyway and because of that, they stay. The same is true of God. The bible tells us and shows us many times and ways His love for us has granted us grace and favor. It even tells us that “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18) The love of God and our love of and trust in Him eliminates the need to fear anything! Because He’s got us, no matter what! And finally, when you love yourself enough to take care of yourself and cover yourself and tell yourself how amazing and wonderful and empowered you are, you push fear right out of the way by just showing yourself a little love.

And I know it’s not easy. I know one of the hardest things for us to do is to trust, whether its others, God, or ourselves because of the mistakes we’ve made and the pain we’ve experienced in this walk of life. But just ask yourself, am I worth it? And when you doubt it for even a minute out of fear, frustration or pain, remember that YOU ARE and love yourself in spite of it all. So, because there’s not much more I could say to you than that, I leave you with this: Love God, Love Yourself, and Love Others- that’s the only way to truly trust it and keep fear at bay. Go in Love, and Never in Fear.
