I DID NOT SETTLE

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.” Psalm 23:1

Being satisfied doesn’t mean that I settled.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where other people look at your surroundings and want more for you? I’m sure it’s happened at least once before in your life, if you really think about it. Maybe they wanted a better school, a better job, a better career, a better partner, a better life for you. And sure, they mean well by it. Who doesn’t want the best for the one’s they love? But who gets to decide what that best is? Think about the last time you second guessed something based purely on the opinion of someone you trust. For me it was just last week. I was having a conversation with my sister and she absentmindedly made a comment that had me completely rethinking my next steps. She didn’t know what all had gone into what brought me to this space, nor do I think she understood the magnitude of her statement (it’s okay, sis, we’re good lol) but the impact was made and one question rang clear in my mind: Are you settling?

Was I settling? Was I accepting the bare minimum because of how many times I’d been let down in the past? Was I no longer looking for what I deserved because I didn’t think it was obtainable? All these fleeting thoughts filled my anxious little heart and I almost did what we often do… I almost shut down and walked away. But we have to stop doing that. We have to stop deciding that being satisfied with something different means settling for less than we deserve. The scripture says “God is my shepherd; I have all that I need.” (Psalm 23:1) When David wrote these words he was in such a state of peace that he wanted to acknowledge that God had given him everything he could ever ask for just by being his guide… so what else could he desire? How could he find Satisfaction in more than that?

How can you be settling when you’re in the will of God?

I’m challenging you today, readers, to take a look at what you’ve “settled” for and ask yourself are you happier with it than without it? Is it bringing joy to your life? Just because it could be taller, or faster, or bring in more pay, does it make you smile at the end of the day? If God brought you to that place, how can you be settling? So the next time someone tries to tell you that you deserve better or could be happier “if” remind YOURSELF first that God brought you to this place and it’s his desire for you to gain something here. No matter what that is, accept it and its role in your life and move forward knowing that you have NOT settled and stand affirmed in that by yourself… and me. I love you, and as always, I’m rooting for you. Keep conquering daily!
