I AM HAPPINESS

“These things have I spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:11

I am happiness and I choose happiness.

Think about a time when you were truly Happy. Think about what was happening in that moment of true, genuine happiness. The people you were with. What you were doing. How it all began and the moment you took to take it all in and just be Happy. Now I want you to think about how long ago that was. If you are now feeling anything other than Happiness doing this exercise, ask yourself why. Ask yourself what is keeping you from Happiness and then ask yourself what will it take to get you back to a Happy place.

So many things contribute to a happy moment. Occasion, location, companions all help create the canvas that our picture of Happiness is painted on. Emotions and past experiences help choose the colors that the art will consist of. But what creates the actual picture itself? What causes the brush strokes that turn into the memories of Happiness in our lives. Choice. Making the choice to walk in Happiness instead of whatever other option seems like a viable choice in those life moments.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that if you’re not happy all day everyday you’re doing life wrong. Absolutely not. Life is a complicated space and emotions help keep it that way. There is appropriateness for every emotion and you do get to feel them all (hopefully not all at the same time). But what I am saying is there are so many good things in this world that we have a RIGHT to be happy about. That’s right, I said it. Happiness is a right. And if I’ve been nothing else for you, friend, I’m always an advocate for your rights. So let me affirm you right into a Happy space for the very next time you need it.

Affirmation 1: Happiness is an emotion worth feeling and you have the right to feel it. Out of all the emotions, Happiness feels good. Personally I think it feels the best. It gives you warmth, excitement, and just an all around goodness that you can relax into. I’m getting all warm and fuzzy just writing about it and I hope you’re having a similar response just reading about it, and that you own and walk in the truth that you deserve that feeling.

Affirmation 2: Life is about choices and I CAN choose to be Happy. Too often we think we can’t or shouldn’t choose happy because of all the other things in our world. To be clear, nobody said your choosing to be Happy means you’re oblivious or ignorant to the world around you. It just means that in this moment, for you, happiness feels right. And that’s ok. Now if you find yourself struggling with finding happiness, or joy, even to the point of seriously affecting your daily life, I recommend seeking some help from a professional. And that choice is ok, too.

Affirmation 3: God made Happiness and He give me my Joy. The bible says “These things have I spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:11) And God said it, so it must be real. His joy CAN remain in us AND keep us full. I’m owning that and I hope you will too.

So I leave you with this, friend. Today, choose happiness. Even if tomorrow you have to choose a different emotion to run point, today you get to choose the warm and fuzzy. And if that’s not your truth right now, then I hope Happiness finds you and you can choose it when it does. I love you, and as always, I’m rooting for you. Keep conquering.
