“But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.” Matthew 10:26
My security system is faultless.
Have you ever had to fight the feeling that no matter what, someone is out to get you? Maybe its someone at work, or a classmate or even a family member who goes out of their way to make things difficult for you. And while sometimes this can be harmless, there are, unfortunately, some circumstances that give room for caution. I saw the movie Senior Year on Netflix a couple months ago where the main character ends up in a coma because a rival cheerleader intentionally sabotages her stunt. Now I genuinely pray that no one in your life has such hateful emotions directed towards you that they would go to such lengths as to threaten your life. But we know that is a reality for some people and I encourage you to stay alert and have a safety plan in place. For those of us not in physical danger, sometimes a vindictive person won’t attack you physically, but they may attack socially, emotionally, and mentally. And those kind of attacks can make you fearful for your reputation and state of mind.
First things first, if this is something you believe you have experienced, let me validate you. The world is full of characters who will stop at nothing to protect their truth. We see it everyday on the news so if you believe this is your reality, I’m inclined to believe you. I also want to point out that sometimes our emotions and anxieties make things bigger than they have to be and take our control from us. What I want to give you is control. So I’m going to affirm you to take back that control and let go of these fears.
Affirmation 1: You are secure. The first thing the enemy comes for is your insecurities. They will attack the little things that make you anxious and will have you questioning if you’re worthy of the skin you live in. Don’t let them in. You deserve every good thing that happens to you, including every breath that you take and every morning that you wake. Do not lose your sense of security tied to your self worth. The minute you do that, they have a chance to win.
Affirmation 2: You don’t have to take it. When you know something is amiss, say something. If its a supervisor at work, speak up and be prepared to leave. If its a classmate, let an instructor know. If its a landlord or some other figure who has an upper hand on you, do not be afraid to take legal action. You have rights and the first right is to stand up for yourself. Protect your security by taking whatever actions are necessary.
Affirmation 3: What’s done in the dark… The scripture says it so well: “But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.” (Matthew 10:26) Whatever sneaky, shady, dirty things that are happening against you, the time is coming when it’s all going to come out. So take comfort in knowing that God sees all and reveals all. And if the enemy isn’t careful, it’s going to be a powerful revelation.
Dear readers, I hope you feel safe and secure at all times. But when you don’t, take comfort in these affirmations and do what is necessary to make yourself safe. If for whatever reason that is harder for you than you believe it should be, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Let someone guide you through the process of organizing your thoughts and finding the courage to attack the problem the best way. I love you, and as always, I’m rooting for you. Keep conquering daily.
