I AM EMBRACING COMMUNION

“But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer.” Psalm 66:19

I am engaging in spirituality and taking time to commune with God.

There’s something sweet and beautiful about being able to relieve yourself of all your burdens. It’s definitely not easy but when you’re able to fully do it, even for just a moment, it’s such a freeing feeling. But I fully understand when you can’t do that because there’s just so much on your mind. So what do you do when that happens? When your mind is so clouded with concerns that you can’t find any peace? By now, I expect my longest followers know what I’m going to say (LOL). If you’ve been with me long enough you know I’m a full advocate of going to therapy. Because it works, right? And I’ll preach that until I’m blue in the face. But the other side that I also preach is spirituality and connection, and believe it or not, most mental health professionals will as well. That’s right, your therapist will encourage you to tap into the traditions that bring you comfort and if that means prayer and fasting, they’ll advocate for it. But if you’re finding you’re not connected, or have lost your connection, what do you do? Let’s sit there for a second.

I can’t give you a cure all, because that doesn’t exist. And I can’t give you a one way because that’s not real either. But what I can use is the word communion. What is it? The sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level. When you want to connect with God, I recommend starting right there. Sharing your intimate thoughts and feelings with Him, and in Christianity that often means prayer. There are very traditional ways that prayer looks, kneeling by the side of the bed, hands clasped eyes closed. Joined in hands with others, eyes closed. Laying prostate on the ground, eyes still closed. But those aren’t the only ways to do it. Maybe you need to put on music, or play sound bowls. Maybe you need to fill the air with fragrance and breathe deeply. Maybe you need to embrace nature. Where ever you find God is loudest, He will meet you there and hear you.

So only one affirmation for today: I am Embracing Communion. I want you to make an effort today to be with God, and let Him be with you. Let His embrace envelope you and bring you the comfort that somebody is always there and always understands your deepest, darkest, and hardest moments. Someone always loves you, no matter what harsh words you might be hearing from others. No matter how alone and scary the world my look or feel, if you can find that place of spiritual communion where you connect back to the Creator… there is peace there. And even if only for a moment, relief.

Friends, I love you. I can’t say that enough. And I can’t encourage you enough to keep seeking peace. Because peace doesn’t make it go away or make it make sense, but it does bring comfort and acceptance. And in this life if we keep fighting what is obviously meant to be (even if only for a moment) we will end up exhausted and I don’t want that for you. So I embrace communion (especially this one because talking to you guys weekly is so peaceful for me) and spirituality and finding peace with my maker as I walk the earth. I’m rooting for you, my loves. Keep conquering daily.
