I AM EMBRACING POSSIBILITY

“I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.” Mark 11:24

Impossible things are not beyond my reach.

“Impossible things are happening every day.” In 1997 I was introduced to a different version of the Cinderella story, with Whitney Houston and Brandy playing the main characters and filling my little songstress heart with joy as they belted out my new favorite playlist. I fell in love with a song that said dewy-eyed folks who build up impossible hopes make impossible things happen every day and that became my mantra in life.

As a person who conquers anxiety daily optimism is my saving grace. It’s the only thing that keeps me from wallowing in the pits of despair when things go wrong in my life and whew the stories I could tell. Does that happen to you? Do you find yourself struggling to see the glass as half full when it’s often so empty? And does that make catastrophizing situations and dwelling on the worst possible case scenario your go-to? Is it as exhausting for you as it is for me? That’s when optimism becomes key. Embracing Possibility. Positive Possibility at that. Believing that all things are possible makes life’s burdens seem a little less burdensome. Believing in miracles means magic is real and not just in fairy tales. But how do you become optimistic when pessimism has been your residence for as long as you can remember? How do you embrace possibility when everything seems impossible? Let’s affirm.

Affirmation 1: You deserve good things. The first step to embracing possibility is believing that you deserve those possibilities. The Bible says “I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24) We have not because we ask not. And we ask not because we don’t believe we deserve what we’re not asking for. Once you let that “why me” mentality go the possibilities become endless.

Affirmation 2: Miracles Happen. Every good thing that has ever happened to me gets to be a miracle. I woke up this morning when someone else didn’t. I survived a disaster that succumbed someone else. I got the job that I didn’t even know I wanted and it opened up possibilities for me. Even things that should have been bad end up being miracles. A client canceled an appointment and then there was a huge storm during the time we would have met. I missed my exit but avoided an accident. Every one of these small miracles means big miracles are possible too.

And it’s just that simple. I could give you a hundred different affirmations about believing that all things are possible, miracles happen, you deserve the best, God can do anything and more but you all have heard them a thousand times (at least a hundred from me) and at this point you have to push past the negative thoughts in your head and give yourself the opportunity to believe more. Give yourself the grace to embrace opportunity and to forgive yourself when you fall short of that belief. Then come right back and keep trying to believe. I love you, and I believe in you. Keep conquering daily!
