“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
I CAN ENJOY THE LITTLE THINGS I LEARN ABOUT MYSELF ALONG THE WAY.
If you’re anything like me, you’re on a path towards a bigger picture. Bigger picture, bigger goals, bigger destinations. That’s the goal, right? To make it to the finish line; whether that’s in your career, your love life, your education, your financial status, whatever. We all make goals for ourselves and strive to reach them. But those bigger goals are never reached overnight and take many steps to get there. And if you’re any more like me… sometimes those steps can be overwhelming. Sometimes we get stuck in a step because it’s hindering our arrival to that final destination, we get a little obsessive about it. Sometimes, we get a little anxious or depressed about it.
You don’t have to admit to being like me in that regard, I can own it full out. My anxiety can make journeying hard, because I don’t like the hinderance hiccups cause. It makes me feel like I’m losing control of my destiny and losing control is just “not an option.” But when I do that (yeah, I’ll keep making it about me) I often miss out on the beauty of learning along the way. Every hiccup, every misstep, every blip in the matrix is designed to teach us something about ourselves that we’ll need later in the journey. And it would be a better journey if we could learn to embrace it. How do we do that? Let’s affirm.
Affirmation 1: The journey can be beautiful when seen from the end. Those hard levels and boss battles are difficult. They are challenging and stressful and sometimes take multiple attempts to complete. But when we finally accomplish them and look back? There’s a sense of pride that can wash over you knowing you did what you once thought was impossible. So don’t let the hard parts get you down, just know that when you look back at how you came over, you can be so proud of yourself.
Affirmation 2: The school of hard knocks is designed to teach. You know it’s supposed to teach you something, right? Like, that’s the whole purpose. Things that come up against us aren’t meant to just come up against us, we’re SUPPOSED to get some type of lesson out of it. And yeah, there are times where we wish we didn’t have to learn it the hard way, but hey, at least we learned, right?
Affirmation 3: Learning about yourself can be enjoyable. I know those epiphany moments I have with my therapist where I realize exactly why I’ve been processing something a certain way and I smile inside because on top of everything else I’m learning about the world and people around me, I’m figuring out me, too. And that’s the best part. Every time I learn a little more about what makes ME tick and what I will and won’t tolerate and do and don’t have to take from the mean mean world, I feel better going into the battle. And you can too!
My loves, the journey is never going to be perfect, or easy or fun all the time. But it has it’s moments, and those are meant to be enjoyed. And my hope for you is that you learn to enjoy them. After all, you’re writing your story… and it’s going to be the best one you ever tell. I love you, and as always, I’m rooting for you. Keep conquering daily!
