“Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD.” Romans 12:19
Stay the course and have faith in the outcome.
Hey friends! Happy Black History Month! This is one of my favorite times of the year because I love the opportunity to learn little tidbits of history that people wait until this time to share. But just as excited as I can be, I can also be disheartened. There is a lot of injustice that is recalled when we look at the history of African Americans. It can cause depressed moods and anxious moments to revisit some of the traumatic moments in our history. And, if I’m being honest (y’all love it when I’m honest) it’s more traumatic because those injustices are still happening today.
How do you deal with injustice? How do you deal with being treated unfairly or with those who do you harm not receiving their just due because of what they’ve done? If you’re anything like me, it can result in some sleepless nights and some tear soaked pillows. Why does it hurt so bad? Why is there such an emotional pull when injustice rears it’s ugly head? Probably because in spite of all the feelings, all the knowledge of wrongdoing, all the things you did to be correct and cautious and courteous… when it seems like there will be no justice, it kind of just tears you down a little inside.
I know the feeling all too well. But you know what I have to do when that happens? I have to affirm myself out of negative talk. So let’s affirm!
Affirmation 1: I am Embracing Justice. Embracing Justice means not sitting back and letting things happen to you. When you have the chance to fight for what’s right, take advantage of that opportunity! Don’t sit silent! Sometimes all the people in power need to know is that somebody actually cares. Think about how swift we’ve been to see justice just by posting on our social media platforms and rallying the support of family, friends, even strangers for a cause. That can’t happen if you’re just wallowing in self-pity.
Affirmation 2: Stay the course and have faith in the outcome. Now that you’ve embraced justice, don’t give up! Sometimes the fight for justice isn’t immediate. Sometimes it can take weeks, months, even years before a solution is found. And if you let yourself get worked up because you’re not getting immediate results, you can cause additional stress on yourself.
Affirmation 3: Let go, and let God. The scripture says “Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD.” (Romans 12:19) I remember the last thing I let go of and the amount of peace I experienced by doing so. It was the most blissful peace I’d ever felt because I knew that God had me. I knew He was going to make the things happen that needed to happen, and I had already put my trust in Him… why would I take it back before giving Him the chance to prove what He can do?
Friends, Justice is hard. There’s so many mitigating stipulations and conditions that can derail a process and things don’t always go exactly the way you want them to. But if you truly let go, and let things work out the way they’re designed to… everything will be okay. And you’ll have fewer gray hairs and extra pounds because of it. I love you, and I’m rooting for you, and always praying that justice finds it’s way to you and yours. Keep conquering daily.
