I AM EMBRACING STILLNESS

“The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:14

No matter the fate, it can wait.

As I sit on this Christmas Eve afternoon, I reflect on my day. I had a long to-do-list as I generally work 6 days a week and since I’ll be with my family tomorrow I didn’t want to lose the day. Just as I was getting into my to-do-list, the power went out. No lights, no multi-screens, no internet. I text a friend and said “I guess I’m reading a book because I can’t do anything without power.” That hits hard. I can’t do anything without power. That resonates in many ways. In the literal, I can’t complete certain tasks without electricity. It’s even difficult for me to utilize my bathroom which has no windows. In the emotional and mental, when I don’t have the power to change my circumstances, exerting too much energy over something I have no power over is fruitless. And then in the spiritual, God has all the power. Nothing I can do is greater than what He can, so without the RIGHT power, I can’t do anything.

So what do you do when you don’t have power? You sit still. Stay calm. Wait. Embrace the stillness because it can be very loud if you don’t allow yourself to relinquish control and just… be… still. How do you embrace stillness? I’m going to give you just one affirmation today, and I hope you use it well.

Affirmation: No matter the fate, it can wait. When you don’t have power, everything that requires power has to wait. Therefore, all the fretting needs to wait, because fretting never helped anything. Whatever the outcome is going to be is going to be regardless, so you might as well wait. Tell worry to wait. Tell fear to wait. Tell anxiety, and stress, and hurt and pan, tell it all to wait. Embrace the stillness and free your mind of all things you can’t control. And then just breathe.

I don’t know what this holiday season has been like for you, friend. Maybe you’re happy and bubbly. but a little stressed from holiday expectations. Maybe you’re mourning loss. Maybe Christmas hasn’t felt like Christmas. No matter where you fall on the holiday spectrum, my Christmas wish for you is that you embrace stillness and take the time you owe yourself to not fret over anything you don’t have power over. I love you, and I’m always rooting for you. Keep conquering daily!
