I AM EMBRACING FOCUS

“Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.” Proverbs 4:25

If I block out distractions I can focus on my goals.

How’s your focus? Can you see things clearly? Are things making sense? If they are, great! But that’s only one definition for focus. Focus also means to pay particular attention to AND the center of interest or activity. So, I’ll ask again. How’s your focus? Are you paying attention to what SHOULD be the center of interest? I had a conversation with my mentor recently where she was pressing on me that I might need to snooze something for the sake of my mental health. You see, I read something that shifted my focus and derailed me a bit for the day. And as a result it made it difficult to see things clearly.

Sometimes, we pay attention to something so much we lose focus of what we should be look at. If we let our insecurities and anxieties about things we cannot control we fail to be able to function in what we can. Sometimes we let what someone thinks of us, or how they act around us, or if they like us that we don’t work on being the best version of ourselves and work on being the best version for them instead. Whew! I know how that makes me feel, but what does it do for you? How does it feel to know that you’re giving someone or something the ability to derail you just by thinking about them too much? How does it feel to know that the shift in your focus is affecting your focus?

So what do we do? How do we take back control of the narrative and make sure we’re embracing focus? Let’s affirm!

Affirmation 1: If I block out distractions I can focus on my goals. When you have a purpose and you’re walking towards it, don’t let the little things on the sidelines take up more attention than their supposed to. Block out the distractions and keep pressing towards what you’ve worked so hard for!

Affirmation 2: Ask yourself “are they losing as much sleep over this as I am?” We all know we need sleep to regain our energy and be prepared for the coming day. But if we’re losing sleep worrying over a thing, we won’t be able to perform. But is the thing you’re fretting over also fretting over you? Are they staying up all night trying to figure out what you’re doing and what they should be doing as a result of it? Probably not. And if they are, are they right? Probably not! Take your rest, friend!

Affirmation 3: Do I have the power to change what I’m focusing on? If you can’t change it, you are wasting energy worrying about it. Now I know that worry is natural and normal. And I encourage you to embrace that emotion and give it the space it deserves. But if worry is becoming a hinderance and you can’t do anything to affect the outcome, your focus is ill placed. Get back to what’s important!

Friends, I know first how easy it is to have something disrupt my peace and then I can’t let if go for days. It’s not how I want to live, but it’s my process and I’m working on it. And I want you to, too! Because we deserve to be focused on the good and the positive and our purpose! We don’t have to be worried about what others say or think, they have their own struggles to work through. So for 2024 let’s embrace Focus, and keep conquering our angst daily. I love you, and I’m always rooting for you!
